As the new year unfolds, the energy on Ponsonby Road is electric with possibility. At Pompallier on Ponsonby (PoP), that energy is channelled into the steady rise of a new landmark, now standing proudly on one of the city’s most iconic ridgelines. The past few months have seen significant progress, transforming the vision we’ve shared into a tangible reality you can now see and feel.
A New Perspective: The View from the Top
One of the most significant milestones we’ve reached is the completion of the roof level. For the first time, we’re able to stand high above the hum of the street and experience the breathtaking views that will soon greet our residents every day. As Kelly McEwan, Development Director at Urban Collective, shared in a recent update from the site, “It’s going to be quite special.”
This isn’t just a view; it’s a viewpoint. It’s the feeling of being connected to the vibrant heart of Ponsonby while having your own private sanctuary to recharge. It’s watching the sun rise over the city and set over the Waitakere Ranges, all from the comfort of home. This unique balance of buzz and peace is the very essence of the PoP living experience.

Over the past three months, our social media has been filled with the stories of Ponsonby. The local artisans, the community leaders, and the passionate business owners who make this neighbourhood so unique. From the ground floor retail spaces designed to welcome the next generation of Ponsonby entrepreneurs, to the carefully crafted residences above, every element of PoP is designed to enhance the community, not just inhabit it.
Construction Progress
The period since our last update has been one of major achievements.
- Building from the Ground Up: The team is now focused on completing the residential apartments, working methodically from the lowest level upward. Each floor brings us closer to the moment when residents will step into their new homes and experience the views that define PoP living.
- The Views Are Spectacular: The views from all apartments are breathtaking. As Kelly shared about the progress through our video update (click here to watch reel). The vistas are extraordinary, giving residents at every level something truly special to wake up to.
- A Unique Heritage Approach: The philosophy behind PoP is distinctive, preserving the heritage façade while building something completely new alongside it. Everything around the heritage building will be completely new and the facade's going to be completely old. It's an approach no one else is doing on Ponsonby Road, and it's what will make this project truly special.
Looking Ahead: 2026 Milestones
As we move deeper into 2026, the journey from vision to reality continues. The team is focused on steady progress, working thoughtfully to bring every element of PoP to life. Each day on site brings us closer to the moment when the first residents will walk through the doors and call this place home.
